Lower Back Bones – A Comparison With Neanderthals

Roohealthcare.com – If you’re suffering from lower back pain, it may be time to start looking at your spine. Scientists have recently compared the spines of modern humans to those of Neanderthals. While we’re not genetically related to our ancient ancestors, our lifestyles and habits may be to blame. The study, conducted by the University of Washington, looked at the skeletal structure of modern humans and Neanderthals.

Lumbar Fusion Surgery Procedure

Lumbar fusion surgery involves removing a spinal disc and repositioning the lower back bones. While the fused level is stabilized, the levels above and below it can still move freely. In some cases, the inserted bone will grow into its own bone, allowing it to move as it should. After conservative treatment fails, lumbar fusion surgery is considered as the next step. This procedure can be performed in a surgical suite, usually an OSC spine surgeon.

Pain in the back can be caused by a variety of causes. Common causes include injuries to the spine and muscle aches. Sometimes, pain originating in the abdomen is felt in the back. This is known as referred pain. Intra-abdominal disorders include tumors, infections, and inflammatory processes. Even a normal pregnancy can strain your lower back. It can also strain pelvic ligaments. It can also irritate nerves.

Causes of Lower Back Pain

The most common type of back pain in adolescents is spondylolysis. Approximately 3% to 6% of the general population has this disorder. The most common targets of spondylolysis are the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebra. This condition affects both adults and children but is more common in adults. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to correct the position of the vertebrae.

Another important bone in the back is the sacrum. This triangular-shaped bone connects to the hips on either side. It contains four fused vertebrae. It forms the pelvic girdle and connects the hips to the sacrum. The sacrum also provides attachment for the pelvic floor muscles. Acute injury to this area can cause low back pain. If you are suffering from pain, visit your doctor to determine which of these two conditions might be affecting your lower back.

Compressed Nerves Inhibit Ability to Stand or Walk Correctly

A compressed nerve can affect your ability to plantar flex your foot, or bring your foot upward. If a lumbar nerve is compressed, you will be unable to plantar flex your foot. You will also not be able to raise your big toe. All these problems are symptoms of a compression of a nerve. In addition, a compressed nerve may impede your ability to stand or walk properly.

While Pilates is great for the spine, it has been missing one important piece: the articulation of the spine. Without a proper cue for the lower back, it’s impossible to perform Pilates-style exercises correctly. Your abdominal muscles lift and stretch the low back bones. Your abdominals lift your torso and help to articulate your spine. But this is only a partial solution. It is far more beneficial to focus on strengthening the abdominal muscles.
